How to define circle of confusion for a digital sensor... a case of two approaches.

If you are interested in these things, you might consider the following for a rainy weekend reading...

01) The historical calculation is based on the keenness of the human eye when viewing the the printed photo at A4 size at a distance of 25cm. The eye can not distinguish details smaller than 1 arc min and this is taken as the CoC diameter.

02) On the other hand pixel based CoC has nothing to do with the human vision. This is the limit of the sensor. The sensor can not resolve details smaller than a 2 pixel x 2 pixel square.

For the Fuji x100t I have seen CoC values in the range from 0.03 to 0.005...  It seems that over time Fuji has released different CoC values for DOF calculations.

Pay your money and take your choice... or better yet, make your print and plan your next outing ; )
