Finish on standard vs high end Patek movements
We sometimes hear that some of Patek’s higher end movements are finished better than their standard movements. I don't have any minute repeaters, tourbillons, split second chronos or other extremely high-end pieces, but wanted to do a quick comparison bet...
I dont know what to believe here....some pics 5140 has geneva seal and some pics have PP. Same with 5120 geneva seals are diff. Only thing that is clear is inconsistent polishing...
...among all units (at least 4 here). While no two 5140s or even two 5120s can be completely alike how much latitude does PP allow within the same model is still unproven from these.
I suspect there isn't a big difference between the two you are comparing.
Because the perpetual also doesnt get the better finishing you see in the high end ones. I don't know where the cut off point is for Patek for them to justify higher end finishing. In this case, the movement bridges are rounded, devoid of nice sharp edges...
It wouldn’t make sense for the parts department to segregate...

IMHO they produced parts in one go
but they sort and select an immaculate and refined for the higher end.
IMO the finishing of the movement does not contribute much on the resale value of the 5140...

Am I seeing correctly that there are the vertical lines of mechanical polishing on the anglage for both movements?

I have the exact same two movements
in my 5940G and the 7200R London Edition and I can confirm that the finishing is the same.
