I was about to ask about 5396G with the sector dial and plain dial. I am in love with the sector dial of this watch and have managed to source one in a very good condition (but not perfect) from 2009. I wish Patek was still making this watch. It looks so ...  

In terms of sector dials, this 5396 has my preference over the 5296. Just a matter of taste. However, the 5396 looks really cool and I think I could only make my decision if I could experience them for a longer period of time. I don't know why it was disc...

Your shots make me feel that I would also have a preference for your metal versus R. It is interesting what you say about the date. Indeed some purists always have a problem with dates (to each his own perception of a date in a dial, suitable or not) but ...

I agree with the markers comment: this is something I notice on nearly every references. The way they craft and shape the markers' angles and surfaces is a detail I love when Pateks are concerned. Thank for your input and vote! Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark ! nice to open 5296R dial discussion in forum and as usual with your great input. Not going in technical detail as its same movement but sector dial makes it distinct as standard dial can be found in any other classic dress watch not only like Cal...

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed it, but I see it in my sector dial too. You can see it in Drphileasfogg's pics. In the 2nd & 3rd pic, the centre circle, and the next alternate ring are light brown while the others are white. In the 1st and 4th pic... 

I\'ve to say, Patek makes very nice dials!

The alternating color of the rings is quite amazing, and I like how my 5296G dial shifts in such subtle ways. I remember you extolling the virtues of Patek dials to me once, and you were spot on!

Thanks for sharing those shots, it looks really cool that way on your wrist. I think I have a very little preference for WG too, even if, as you say, RG goes very well with tan. However, I'm really looking forward to the moment you'll be sharing your 5235...

While normally I have a strong preference for sector dials, which I find to be more beautiful and interesting, on the RG I prefer the standard dial. With no rose gold on the dial or hands, for me it is a mismatch. Compare this to the limited edition 5296 ...

They are even better in person than the alluring photos. An R sold last month at a major HK auction for a seemingly crazy high price. Best, patekova

I think this particular model works so much better in white with either dial. The R is just a bit to classic in my opinion. The original takes on an almost vintage character whereas in white it's a sharp clean modern beauty.
