Hi, I have inspected the two Patek Philippe Ref. 5296R dial versions in rose gold cases and can now share some thoughts that are illustrated with photographs. While the standard version is very elegant and already a classic Calatrava design, the sector di...
The sector dial would be more versatile. Can be worn in more casual clothes and would look good. The other version would look really good in a tux and is definitely at home in very formal settings. The cal 324 is a very sturdy movement. You see it in the ...
It is interesting to bring the matter that way: I think that today we can also find very appealing wearing a classical version (here the Standard one) with casual outfits like jeans for instance and a shirt out of the trousers. The latter is a way of wear...
I was about to ask about 5396G with the sector dial and plain dial. I am in love with the sector dial of this watch and have managed to source one in a very good condition (but not perfect) from 2009. I wish Patek was still making this watch. It looks so ...
In terms of sector dials, this 5396 has my preference over the 5296. Just a matter of taste. However, the 5396 looks really cool and I think I could only make my decision if I could experience them for a longer period of time. I don't know why it was disc...
But if ever there was a Calatrava that should have omitted the date, the sector dial is it! Go all the way, Patek: if you're going to genuflect to the past, then at least do it right. Every vintage sector dial time-only Patek I've seen had no date. How ab...
About the date, I think this is a feature a lot of clients are willing to find in a their watch today. I must say I love the secor decoration in the chronos, without date too. Your 39mm suggestion is something that Patek should consider indeed! Thanks for...
I love my sector dial 5296 to bits, precisely for the reasons some of you have stated - it's surprisingly versatile (yes, it goes with dressier jeans), it looks more contemporary, while at the same time it has a vintage feel with the sector dial. The only...
Your shots make me feel that I would also have a preference for your metal versus R. It is interesting what you say about the date. Indeed some purists always have a problem with dates (to each his own perception of a date in a dial, suitable or not) but ...
... it depends what you want to wear it with ..... Personally I like the standard 5296 with the dauphine hands and hour markers. The almost laser finishing of the hour markers is what mesmerizes me the most especially when light bounces off them. Seems ma...
I agree with the markers comment: this is something I notice on nearly every references. The way they craft and shape the markers' angles and surfaces is a detail I love when Pateks are concerned. Thank for your input and vote! Cheers, Mark
and I see you've been giving some thoughts. Maybe they'll follow the request of several purists for a no-date version Thanks for the vote! Cheers, Mark
Hi Mark ! nice to open 5296R dial discussion in forum and as usual with your great input. Not going in technical detail as its same movement but sector dial makes it distinct as standard dial can be found in any other classic dress watch not only like Cal...
and this feeling is a very pleasant one when wearing a watch. The occasion for you to share but especially for us to admire and see pieces we don't see that much. Thanks a lot for your nice comments and input Gautam! Cheers, Mark
without the date window because the railway tracks are interrupted. :-( The blue hands are great and IMO they match best with white gold. In terms of the 5396 AC sector dial, I find the dial busy because I am a simple guy. LOL ! Thanks for another good po...
Sector vs. non sector: two different watches The 5296G sector is indeed best for casual and the 5296R plain dial for “dressy” moments - that's my 2 favorites - although rose gold can be casual and I wear dressy RG watches in summer, it blends better with ...
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed it, but I see it in my sector dial too. You can see it in Drphileasfogg's pics. In the 2nd & 3rd pic, the centre circle, and the next alternate ring are light brown while the others are white. In the 1st and 4th pic...
The alternating color of the rings is quite amazing, and I like how my 5296G dial shifts in such subtle ways. I remember you extolling the virtues of Patek dials to me once, and you were spot on!
Thanks for sharing those shots, it looks really cool that way on your wrist. I think I have a very little preference for WG too, even if, as you say, RG goes very well with tan. However, I'm really looking forward to the moment you'll be sharing your 5235...
While normally I have a strong preference for sector dials, which I find to be more beautiful and interesting, on the RG I prefer the standard dial. With no rose gold on the dial or hands, for me it is a mismatch. Compare this to the limited edition 5296 ...
I made a post a while ago: www.watchprosite.com / I never saw it in the metal but looked really nice on pictures. Maybe be I would have made the same choice than you. Thanks for your nice comment and input Cheers, Mark
I think this particular model works so much better in white with either dial. The R is just a bit to classic in my opinion. The original takes on an almost vintage character whereas in white it's a sharp clean modern beauty.
