Hi everyone, I have gained a new found interest in the vintage Patek's that have a distinctive feature of a central seconds hand. So far i have come across models with the Ref. 2533, Ref. 2508 and Ref. 570. I notice that most of these models from the 50's... 

As reagrds your questions 1.All vintage centre seconds are hand wound. I know of no auto SC 2. I think there are some other calibres beside the 27 SC but am not sure. This calibre is certainly the most common 3.. Not water resistant. Most vintage pieces a...

Hi Stephen, Attached is the Ref 1536 1947 with a 12"SC movement and of course the 565 and 2508 in steel you have referred to. Roni Roni...

Hi Stephen, Unfortunately it isn't a Patek....had it been I would be be an even happier person!! The dial/watch was commissioned in the 1950's by a Maltese nobleman at Universal directly to produce this watch with the painted enamel dial image of St. Paul...

The 565 was available with radium hands but those versions are very far and few between. I have been looking for one for some time now.

Hi Roni, Wonderful looking 1536 (what a dial and oh the lugs!) and I imagine one of the great restorations from Geneva? I now have two in the process (active few months) but it will probably be a year or more between my "before" and "after" pictures! All ... 

Hi! Thanks The 1536 is how I bought it...it hasn't been to Geneva...the dial ,which you cant tell too well from the pic, is a two tone silvered dial You may find yours coming back quicker as with the recent 200 to 300% price hike by Patek to overhaul vint...

There is also the REF 3483 with the 27SC movement, only available in steel. It is very, very hard to find. I can find less than 10 that have been sold at auction in the last 20 years....

I much appreciate this Julian. Yes i am still learning much about it, and i think that's the general consensus as well, that if i can find an SS and it is within my fundings that i should pull on it without haste. And is that a blued steel hairspring that...

1943. One has just sold this afternoon in Bonhams London.

Hi, to expand on Roni's post, both the 565 and 2508 are screwback and thus water resistant. There was the 12-120SC movement used in the 30's and 40's that was also center sweep second. The 27SC being the most popular, it also had the double geneva seal si...

Cal. 12 SC was equipped with a special device provided from Piguet which modified Cal. 12-120 to a center second movement. This caliber was widely spread over many different references and I recall several Calatravas Ref 96 and Ref 1491 with this movement...

The 3483 is also a screw back. I dont have any movement I favour more than another. Why do you favour the 27SC John??

2 reasons. I really like sweep seconds vs sub second and it has a chronometer rating which in my book puts it on the top. Very accurate and robust movement. John

Sweep seconds are very very beautiful IMHO and the word "Chronometer" just gets me going! And not to mention "Very accurate"! Wowsa! Stephen
