Hi everyone,
I have gained a new found interest in the vintage Patek's that have a distinctive feature of a central seconds hand.
So far i have come across models with the Ref. 2533, Ref. 2508 and Ref. 570. I notice that most of these models from the 50's and 60's have a diameter of 34~35mm, and some of the sites that are selling them claim that it is not water resistant, while some says it is. Could you all enlighten me on several points?
1. Are these the only models that have a central seconds hand AND is hand wound? If there are others, is it possible to give me a more complete list, if not an exhaustive one?
2. They all contain the Cal. 27-SC?
3. Water resistant, yes or not?
4. Difference in the references, are they only aesthetic wise? I seem to see some with the baton hour markers, and some with dots, but specifically what makes them differ from each other?
5. Any of them have a stop-seconds (hacking) feature?
6. Are all references available in Stainless steel? I know these are the raries of the patek world, and i am very keen on acquiring one.
I hope to discover so much more into this fascinating world with all of you!
Any details rendered to me is much appreciated!
Best
Stephen
As reagrds your questions
1.All vintage centre seconds are hand wound. I know of no auto SC
2. I think there are some other calibres beside the 27 SC but am not sure. This calibre is certainly the most common
3.. Not water resistant. Most vintage pieces are not
4. Differences are really aesthetic. Case/ dial differences. As you mentioned SS is extremely rare. Breguet numerals are very rare
5.No hacking
6.See 4. I think you would pay a small fortune for a SS or platinum model. Most are Yg and PG is also rare
I will post my 2 when I get home a ref 1491 sc and ref 2466 SCJulian
G'day mate,
Thank you for the warm welcome and the answers to all my questions.
I look forward to seeing photos of your 2 because i can't seem to get enough of viewing these beauties!
Cheers!
Stephen

SS and Breguet
Have you ever seen any in platinum?
Julian
Hey there Roni!
Thank you for posting such beautiful shots of your collection!
The coincidental thing is that i have been viewing your post on TZ just this morning which you posted on Jan 10 last year with regards to your latest purchase the 565, and boy i am still actually looking at it! I wanted to contact you but i'm not really active there and was wondering how i could do that and boy am i glad to see you here on the PuristS!
Now the main question i wanna ask is that in the last photo of that post, there is a gold watch on the left with the painted dial of Jesus(I think?). Is this a Patek? And if so, what is the reference? Can you give me more details on it? What is the name of the release, was it released for a special place, commemoration of an event? And is it available in any white metals? And what is the dial executed in? Is it enamel or cloisonne?
It is fascinating as i have never seen such a watch before. Your SS beauties are superb, and makes me go oomph!
Thanks once again!
Stephen
This is just simply Holy. I love it.
Roni would you mind taking a shot of the back too?
Thanks!
Stephen

Hi Roni!
Indeed, if it was a Patek, what a precious timepiece it shall be! But as it is, nonetheless very precious too!
I have never seen such beautiful artwork before, and appreciate it very very much!
Is the movement a hand wound too?
Cheers!
Stephen
The 565 was also avaialble with luminous hands.
Hi there,
Thank you Autowind!
Stephen
The 565 was available with radium hands but those versions are very far and few between. I have been looking for one for some time now.
I wish you all the best in finding your piece!
Cheers
Stephen
There is also the REF 3483 with the 27SC movement, only available in steel. It is very, very hard to find. I can find less than 10 that have been sold at auction in the last 20 years.
G'day,
Less than 10 in 20 years and you own one?! You are a very blessed man!
Continue to enjoy it in the best of health!
Cheers
Stephen
I much appreciate this Julian.
Yes i am still learning much about it, and i think that's the general consensus as well, that if i can find an SS and it is within my fundings that i should pull on it without haste. And is that a blued steel hairspring that i'm seeing there? Or is it just the colour reflection from the photography?
Ohh! You guys are pulling me into this very very fast!
Cheers!
Stephen

But of course i'v got some massive plans for Lange, and 3 Panerais this year!
Just contemplating, in the end if the search comes to no fruition, what can i do as well ay?
Cheers
