I wasn't that much into Nautiluses until I tried them once. And now I love them all and I know why: the shape of the case yes, but mainly the incredible dials.
I tried the grey one to with the 5726 and found it gorgeous too, compared to the blue dial. But I tried not to ask myself if the black one would seriously challenge the blue one as I was more going for a 5712 (budget issue). Thus I didn't take too much time in trying to compare them but it remains a tough question.
After living a while with the blue dial I must say, it has more faces than the black one when under different type of enlighting.
Thinness was also an important creteria for the purpose of this watch. But I keep thinking I love the 5980 and the 5726, even if they are much thicker.
There aren't many collections I can say I would like them all (the DB25 and Nautilus series would be the only one I guess).
Concerning your choice, I guess the black dial vs blue concerning the 5980 is tougher than on the 5711 or 5712. I can't explain why, but I'll be hesitating quite more than for other Nauts.
Concerning the thickness, I think it's not a significant curb to my choice (I wanted thin for my Nautilus because I wanted to wear it that way. It doesn't mean that thick would have been a problem if worn otherwise).
Thus if it's a little big it wouldn't be a "Con" for me as I would get it for all its other "Pros".
I know it doesn't help :p
Be strong Oliver!
Cheers,
Mark
PS : in my gallery you may find other pictures of blue dial on a 5712.
