The aesthetics of a Patek Philippe truly speaks to me...
I think that Patek Philippe's head designer and I share very similar thoughts on design. Out of all the major haute de gamme Swiss watch brands, I feel that Patek Philippe currently has the most beautiful designs. Their designs are strikingly beautiful, where I sometimes find the designs from other brands either too simple, too classic, too stoic, or poorly proportioned.
Being a younger individual, I find that I am in the minority among individuals my age who like Patek Philippe. Most people my age and even some older than me claim that Patek Philippe watches are too classic and are "old man" watches. I beg to differ, especially with young energetic designs such as the 5960P, 6000G, and others, I find that they're very applicable to a wide age group. Then again, I've also been known to have very conservative tastes for an individual my age.
I like watches both past and present by Patek Philippe. Watches such as the 5159, 5140, 5130, and the 5396 are probably the most classic and beautiful of the current range. I also especially like the 5960 (which is a surprisingly practical watch for day to day), the 6000G (the first Patek Philippe I fell in love with), and the Nautilus 5711/1A and 5712/1A.
In the entire current Patek Philippe range, there isn't a single men's watch that I find that I dislike aesthetically. Oh, I take that back.
I do not like the look of the new 5164A Nautilus Travel Time. I think it looks crude. The 5139G with black face looks a little dark and hard to see to me. And the new 5496P looks a little empty, especially in the moonphase area. That movement works well in the 5159, but just doesn't work well in a reference 96 case with a simple dial.
But otherwise, there isn't a single watch that I dislike. I wished more individuals would acquire the 5124 and 5098 Gondolo watches, which I feel are extremely beautiful and under-appreciated. I also truly like Jaeger-LeCoultre's Reverso watches (you can see, I favor Empire and Art Deco styles) but that's another story.
Aesthetics are an important role when it comes to watches. Patek Philippe, in my opinion, has the most beautiful aesthetic of them all!
