Patek Philippe

That's exactly the point!

If you buy a watch for “the bling” then you want everyone to readily know how expensive it is and for this you need a new watch, knowing the prices of vintage watches requires some prior knowledge (it reminds me a good post we had on the fact that you need some knowledge to fully appreciate watches and art in general). A very similar bling category relates to cars; the owner of a super car knows the price but cannot remember how many horsepower or cylinders his car has…it is just really expensive!

I love vintage and own a nice 1965’s VC, the thing I like the most in vintage is that the playground is far better than the somehow restricted current collections on offer. Vintage offers an alternative to the “big” watch trend we have been experiencing for a while. I have been looking for a ref. 96, or a 565/570 or a 34XX for my first vintage PP, preferably in WG, I found a stunning 3428 but it was too expensive.

With vintage, the hunt is the best part; it’s a hobby, a passion and cannot be done without serious interest and without spending some decent time learning about it. Unless you won the lottery, and buy the best watches on offer at Sotheby’s or Christie’s. Not an option for me but I keep playing.

Best to all,

Stan
