Hi guys, I know it is an old topic but back then when it was discussed the 5170 hadn't hit the stores. Which of these 2 chronos would be your choice the 5170J or 5960R (new white dial)? Thank you!

Neither....I'd go 5070 and call it a day! If not then go 5170J.

ask yourself - Manual or auto? classical or modern? do you need calendar function? try both on the wrist, and decide. for me PERSONALLY - its the 5960...WITHOUT doubt. best, Horo

5960R: hour totalizer, annual calendar, day/night indicator, power reserve, modern, and lume. Park

I like the conventional chrono layout and the thinness of this watch even with the introduction of a white face 5960r model this year.

Hands down. Manual wind chrono in house movement. 39mm and classic styling!

5170. But better answer would be 5070 or Lange Dato.

I would go with the 5960R But would much prefer to have it in another metal. Not keen on the choice of colour for the dial of the R. And the 5170J has a Roman Numeral dial, which is not to my liking.

but I must confess the 5170 is growing on me. Not so long ago I saw it at my AD and is is a good looking piece but I do prefer a 5070. Now 5960 or 5170 ... I'll take the 5170. The 5960 is very nice but I more for the classic chronographs

... do not own any annual calendars or 5980 yet. If I had to choose the 5960R it will be the one with the grey slate dial. Cheers !

Big thanks to everyone for your feed back. I am surprised to see that most of you prefer the 5170J to 5960, however, I see so many photos of people showing their 5960 but none of the owners of 5170. Why is that?
