Suitbert, you are right. Things like dial colour can very quite a lot. I've seen this myself close up. Those shots are simply beautiful. As moderator, you will have seen a lot of Pateks' and I think you would agree, that when they get it right, they really get it right(design wise). That, I think applies to the simplest Patek, as well as the superstars of the range. I think one of my favourites is the new 5119 in rose gold. Exquisite. I think this is also exemplified by CL's 5127G.
Mostel, I am going to look at that hand covering the moonphase on the 5970.
As I've said earlier in this thread, the problem here is which one? They are all attractive.

the solid case back is standard on the 3940P, no sapphire back available. Regarding the dial of the platinum and WG, i had the opportunity at PP in Geneva to handle both models at the same time and the dials are exactly the same.
