I own a 3940 and a 3970. They are so different. The 3940 is amazing with such a sophistcated complication in such a thin case. Truly elegant. I could never part with mine. A true classic.
The 3970 is a chronometer. Beautifully designed but an entirely different watch with an entirely different look. Also wonderful but not a substitute for a 3040.

the solid case back is standard on the 3940P, no sapphire back available. Regarding the dial of the platinum and WG, i had the opportunity at PP in Geneva to handle both models at the same time and the dials are exactly the same.
