I am sure that there are MANY people who did buy the 5980 from AD in Europe at list (or below). At least, the Boutiques will not charge any premium.

It just happens that you are not one of those people and this makes you mad...

In a free market, the shops have the right to select the customers whom they want to sell the watch to.

I can give you the truth.... you can buy the 5980 in only two ways:

Either:

Method A : Use your money: For this, I don't think I need to tell you how to do it

Method B: Use your relationship: For this, it takes time (and probably money, i.e. buy something before) to build up....

By the way, I think it is better for me to emphasize the Math here...

First:

5980 was announced in Oct 2006 (not in Basel 2006). It was celeberating 30th anniversary of the Nautilus that was first announced 30 years ago in 1976. Unless you have super great relationship with PP, you would not see the watch until it was announced.

By counting with my own fingers, there are about 20 months between Oct 2006 and Jun 2008 (i.e. now). It also means 1 year and 8 months.

Second:

The list price of 5980 is about 42k USD here. If you use 2 times that number, it would be 84k USD. Are you saying that its market price is 84k USD now?

Even if you are using CHF, the list price of 5980 is 40300 CHF=39.6k USD. If you use 2 times that number, it would be 79.2k USD. Are you sayting that its market price is 79.2k USD now?

Anyway, I believe it is better to either put the effort to make more money (for method A) or to build a better relationship with the shop (for method B) in order to buy the watch rather than complaining as it never works especially with Patek and its supply chain.

One last comment:

If none of the method A or B solve you problem, the method C could definitely solve your problem..... i.e. just ignore the existence of 5980. Method C always work and it costs you nothing
