I totally agreed with Mostel. I bought my 5960P in April and paid less the current list + tax. If I put my name on list and waited, and even the wait is ONLY one month, I will be paying more.
But my name is still on my AD list so that I can have a 5960P with my name on paper, when I get that, I will sell the one doesn't have my name. But at least I secure the watch at a earlier date and price.
I wasn't in the market for 5980 3 years ago, so not sure what the list and "market" price was. But I can imagine IF you paid market price 3 years ago, it will be less than current price + tax, and you would have enjoyed your watch for 3 years.
So, in certain circumstance and for certain model, going to a gray dealer may make sense. It will be nice to establish a good relationship with one or two reputable gray dealer as they have their own network to get the "hard to find" models.
Just my 2cent, of course I wish the world is much simplier that you can just walk into any AD and pay for any watch you wanted, but then will you still want that Patek.
