Patek Philippe

Sorry, I wasn’t aware that Patek have exclusive rights to the colour blue – duly noted, Karl.

My opinion isn’t an opinion, it’s a statement of fact. Zenith introduced the Extra Special Type 20 Pilot version at Baselworld 2014, which brought with it a central seconds hand and an ETA 2892 movement. The bronze version in 2015 saw the movement revert to the in-house Elite Cal 679.
Therefore, Zenith’s (bar the colour blue!) pre-dates Patek’s by 2 full years – hence the Zenith ES can’t be a knock-off of the 5524.
With the ES in blue coming out at the tail end of 2015, then there is every possible chance that Zenith saw the 5524 at Basel that year, and decided to make a blue version – but equally, blue was all around that year, especially the blue Tudor Pelagos with the new in-house movement and 5-line sonnet on the bottom half of the dial garnering a lot of attention.
