Shhhh, don't distract PP from making a time only calatrava with a movement that fits the case! [nt]

Is there room for a new entry-level Patek?

 By: watchme : August 13th, 2019-07:31
With all the talk about capping steel production, based on Joe Thompson's interview with Thierry Stern that was posted on Hodinkee last week, it makes me wonder if Patek has thought seriously about re-launching an updated and more interesting NEPTUNE line...

I think PP will release a new Calatrava line this fall or new year,

Many models left the catalog and that’s for something new with a new movement, probably the 26-330 found in the 5212 or in the Nautilus (silent upgrade done this year). Of course unlikely to be in steel unless Mr Stern decided to mess up a bit this Nautil...

That's good news! [nt]

I think we may see a 5219 at 39mm come out next Spring.

But this is mere speculation, based on Patek’s history. -Dean

I think they already did.

The 5212a is mentioned on the PP site as : "This steel Calatrava Weekly Calendar also houses a completely new self-winding movement with optimized performance." So I have a strong feeling this is the new base 'platform'. I could be wrong ofcourse, but I h...

I think PP will release a new, larger movement to replace the 215...

so that a new, hobnail bezel watch won't have too small a porthole on the back. -Dean

Agreed.

Question is: what will be the diameter of the base case? 39mm? 39,5? /40? Best, H

Are you thinking a PP "Quai de L'ile"?

 By: Rapwatch : August 13th, 2019-07:53
In which case I like your thinking. But it shouldn't be a 56 3 hander. I can't see it happening. R

There is no reason for Patek to launch that piece on bracelet for that price compared to the Nautilus 5711.

I don't think Patek Philippe cares about those who can't afford non-entry level watches. I like Patek Philippe for what they represent in term of legacy, but I just can't afford one straight from the Salon and now on second market without selling many pie...

1789 again perhaps?! [nt]

I don't hope so.

But we all who are blessed with a life in above-average prosperity and social security should live more consciously and attentively. Personally I try to generate a - for me acceptable - “social footprint” (similar to an ecological footprint). And always s...

PP don’t care about bringing in those who earn less than 6 figures.

They are busy beating the millionaires into submitting to the secondary market premiums on their SS models

Isn’t the new Twenty-4 a new SS series?

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 13th, 2019-10:24
I saw a member once posted he bought it...it’s the same 324 movement and SS.

A complicated issue, but at least as a quick reaction, I would see more cons -- and also risks in terms of image -- than pros should Patek go down this route.

 By: FabR : August 13th, 2019-11:29
Not to mention that a new SS sports model in the $18-20k range would instantaneously end up like the 5711 or the 5167 on the secondary market...unless Patek releases it in generous quantities, which will never happen. An elegant step that partly goes in t...

Or, Patel could just buy JLC from Richmont...

 By: watchme : August 14th, 2019-07:14
And consummate their favorite, historical supplier. The could be PP’s “low line” while supplying Duometer movements to Patek. ;-) -Dean

I think JLC is much more profitable than VC...

 By: watchme : August 15th, 2019-11:15
since they earn money on both sides (selling to the public and selling movements). -Dean

True, but Patek has mastered the ONE think that JLC hasn’t....
