I had same problem around uncertainity and unfamiliarity but I decided to learn and read and observe and then again to learn and read and observe....and then again
and suddenly fog lifted and new dawn has risen...down in Valhalla ....these beautiful vintage pieces full of charm...like golden nuggets in ore...and still today in some brands what lovely bang for buck....in the end I have seen much more modern watch fakes than vintage...
That in the end is what was appealing to me...
Never diss the vintage world it's root of modern world

Well, why not? In 2006 ( if I am correct ) Patek released a re edition of the 565, in steel. Why not a re edition of the 3417?

Make no mistake . I would most likely try and get one of it was relaunched but I have reservations 1. It would not be similar to the original- size, dial configuration 2. It would not be the original- above and also the movement 3. I am a Purist ( purist)...
Like you, I would always prefer an original to a re-edition
Similarly, a re-edition would not have the authenticity that ticks the boxes for me. Having said that, I would see it as a fun Watch and one that would get a lot of wrist time as such.
No more or no less than any standard Calatravas
only when in steel and a bigger size it will get attention 37mm gold and there will be overstock pretty fast 41-42 mm steel and it will be popular and will have a big waiting list
Time only watches tend to wear quite big
I am also not too hung-up about watch size. For me, anything between 35-42 feels fine. On a time only steel, I would be delighted at 38-40mm.

Would definitely be acceptable But I’m pretty sure it would sell much better in a 41 or 42 than in a 38 mm case
