If I were in that position, I'd prefer the 5270 to the 5980. I am not in this market, but my favorite version of the automatic chronograph has been the 5960/1A. I think the Nautilus looks best as a simple watch, without complications.

I totally understand your logic in selling the piece. That’s why it’s so tempting for me now as well. I actually also have a 5960A black dial, so I figured between the two, I’d like to keep the 5960A over 5980A. 5960A may never be as popular as 5980A, but...
