you are right, the movement in both 5140 and 3940 is indeed the same, only the 5140 has the slightly bigger diameter and currently only available in WG.
How active of the specific model been dicussed in forum does not represent the popularity of that watch. IMO, perhaps when 5140 availlabe in other metal, YG, RG or Plat in future, we will expect more discussion coming out.
Nevertheless, you wont get wrong in getting either one of them as both of them are excellent piece.

I sold off my 5038 (same as 3940 but limited) as I thought it was too small so will be contemplating about acquiring one 5140 when it's offered in platinum.

3940 and 5140 -------NOT the SAME
The 5140 dial IS DIFFERENT. The date track has numerals that are squeeezed smaller in two places, I believe the 5 and 27, iirc? they are almost mashing up against the subdials at 9 and 3. Also, the day and month fonts are larger than 3940, so are inner-nu...

more people needing reading glasses, the 5140 is an improvement over the 3940. It may be more "cramped", but overall it's easier to actually read the dial.
