First, I have used the term "PuristS" loosely in that for me, watch friends of mine who enjoy watches and at times read (not necessarily post) on this site, is a PuristS. Here are context and experiences that I have had with the behavior of certain PuristS (as I define them): There are quite a few of my watch friends in Asia, that due to their personal preferences/characters, cultural background, and/or English WRITING abilities, enjoy reading the posts on this site but do not post. Although I do encourage them to post, they have their rights to do so or not. Hence, for these non-posting "PuristS", when I come across their interesting watches which I feel others might like to know more about, I obtain their permission for me to post on their behalf. Sometimes in such a situation I feel sort of like a "ghost writer". LOL
If the forum members and the site feel that such posts are inappropriate, a new rule should be established. For me, having the ability to share the thinking and photos of a new reference, be it by the owner or someone else, provides more pros than cons.
Second, I will ensure the owner knows that you feel the phrase "I think the dial is better than the 5131 enamel maps because the blue New York skyline motif is more discrete" completely unnecessary.
Moreover, I will also inform the owner that you think highly of his watch.
Cheers,
Gordon
