I am sure no one is offended by your honest opinion. If you don't like it, you don't like it - end of story.
However, as Nicolas and others have mentioned, this is really a watch you need to see in the flesh and spend some time with to fully appreciate.
I never liked the look of the 3712 or the 5712 until I had the chance to play with a 5712 for an hour or so at a Patek dinner organised by a local AD. It really worked for me and I began to understand why people admired the Nautilus range. For me the 5712 is not just another steel watch when you hold it in your hands!

With the recent proliferation of detailed and well taken macro shots,I'm sure this will put some pressure on manufacturers to pay more attention to quality control. Any slight defect will be there for all to see! This is a great watch to wear and admire. ...

i think this watch , if it wasn't a Patek, would never even show up as a topic on any of these forums.... I won't go as far as calling it an ugly watch, but for me it has no appeal nor beauty. Sorry but that's just my opinion. I don't want to offend anyon...

Yep, i have never been as impressed with a watch just as much as with the 5712. Its the reflections on the dial
But mostly the lightness of the watch. This is imo the perfect watch.

I saw it in the metal a few months ago. I totally agree with the conclusion, which is this watch is a real beauty in action. Too bad to have sold it, but I’m sure the replacement(s) more than make up for it. Cheers AHo

What to say about one of my all-time favorites? To me, this is the perfect Nautilus (originally the 3712 if you wish). I love symmetry in general, but this "messy" dial simply works. The whole watch is a masterpiece in terms of design and functionality.
Well, after all these years, I considered the three of them: 5711, 5712 and 5980. I had the 5712 for 4 years and let it go for the 5070G. If I had to get another Nautilus, it would probably be the 5980...
But the train has left the station without me... Now, it is too late... Best, Nicolas

I like you are used to buying vintage Rolex. In that world there is one rule in the jungle. Willing buyer and willing seller. No cry babies lol. Once you see how the vintage train works you are never afraid to hop on board at anytime.
I also lost that train unfortunately, not only once but twice
And I'm also tempted to let the 5712 go, but still resisting. The 5980 is simply gorgeous, but a bit taller and sportier. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I prefer the thinner profile of the 5712.
You might be right, if you consider that a Nautilus must have an accentuated sporty character
The 5712 is definitely on the more elegant extreme of the sport-elegant range.
