Good morning everyone, thank you for participating in my challenge. The Daytona is 9 3/8 ounces while the Nautilis 5976 is 10 1/8 ounces so that Patek wins out. The 5976 is really a monster of a watch, it’s 44 mm versus 40 mm for the Platium Daytona and the bracelet matches the size of the 5976 as well. Even with its considerable weight and size, the 5976 wears very well on my 6 3/4 inch wrist but the Daytona is the watch I wear as one of my regulars and it is the only Rolex I will wear, 5976 is so valuable I’ve only worn it twice But I have other Nautiluses I can wear.
I do have an interesting story regarding the 5976, I was in New York City during the Patek world event when Brandon Skinner called me He asked me if I wanted to put a deposit on the watch site unseen, my wife was listening to the conversation and said “no way you’re going to buy that watch” so of course I immediately said yes to the deposit
. Here’s the funny part, I was the third person offered the 5976, the other two before me were put off by the Internet pictures of the watch with the 1976-40-2016 imprinted on the dial. Luckily for me the Internet pictures made that very insignificant imprints look much bigger than it is in real life and I put the deposit on it before I was able to look at the pictures. I believe that was the first and only time Patek Philippe introduced a watch on the Internet… Jim
