FINAL VERDICT
Thank you all for your input.
Before going to the Final Verdict and the reasoning, I have to present the Temporary Solution:
So I bought this Baby less than two weeks ago, brand new. It helped me to think clearer and I must say that this GO is the cleanest perpetual I have seen. It is very readable, understated, comfortable... The only minus is that the watch is quite thick but comparing to all other perpetual, Glashütte Original is cheap as soap!
Verdict:
I love 5100 but red gold is not for me. There is somehow too much glitter and too much gold around. I could take it otherwise but 5100G with its blue dial is simply too nice. So I placed this watch to my short list of watches I need to have.
Patek 5059 is nice. But in the end the diameter-thickness ratio of the watch is wrong. The watch simply looks too thick in my eyes. Furthermore, I love Patek's 240 movement and a perpetual with 240Q is for me.
Patek 5040G got to the final. It's having the right movement and fantastic Breguet applied numbers plus hands. But... for me the shape is difficult. I am not sure if it could take the time (on my wrist).
So I decided to go for 3940 / 5140. To decide between these two was easy: In my eyes the dial of 3940 is much more sober and clean. The dial of 5140 is messy and the additional 1 mm does not justify going for the new mode..
Question: Which metal of 3940 is your favorite? I'm trying to build a balanced collection of wearable Patek watches in all metals. Today I have 4 made of platinum, 2 made of steel, 2 made of white gold, 1 yellow gold and 1 pink gold.
The nice thing about 3940 is that these watches can still be found either brand new or in perfect condition. I knw pretty much what I will take but it would be fun to hear your opinions. Perhaps you can still turn my head!
Best, Kari
