Thanks Mike,
I will surely make my own decision and it might be a watch nobody likes. I am just trying to find some new aspects I have not been able to consider (like i.e. "You can't see the time from 5040 because of lacking contrast on the dial. " Or "5100 is so high that you hit it to all door frames".
Best, Kari
I am totally confused!

Hi everybody, It is time to get my next Patek. I have three offerings and I like them all but in different ways. On the other hand I would love to buy a perpetual and on the other hand a top class manual would be great. My alternatives are: - 5040G. The w...
Have owned 2 of these
By: autowind : September 3rd, 2012-13:57
I have owned a 5100 and a 5059. I loved my 5100 which was white gold with the beautiful blue/slate dial. I like that color combination the best of the four metals because the blue/slate is more unique and the blue/slate dial changes color depending on the...
5100G
By: autowind : September 3rd, 2012-14:30
I used it in a trade but hated to see it go. Hard not to get attached to some of these pieces because they're so beautiful. Here are photos that I believe I've posted on this site in the past. The dial is difficult to photograph because the crystal is con...

Thanks for your input!

Indeed, I really know what I'm going to get: I have decided a couple of time to have 5040, as many times 5100 and the same applies to 5059... I guess many here know the feeling. I also have too many watches (even I have reduced the number of them dramatic...
All great watches...
By: Grisar : September 4th, 2012-07:34
Actually, I like all three references you mentioned. 5040 is a very classic and thin watch while 5059 is significantly thicker. Both wear very differently on the wrist. I slightly prefer 5040 since 5059 is a little bit too thick for its size. But I trust ...
some other advice
By: Grisar : September 4th, 2012-07:59
Other two non-watch related criteria: - Imagine you have none of the above watches, during a gala dinner, you find that three guests on your table have one of the three mentioned watches, on whose watch you will look at for the longest time. Take the one ...
Obious for me too 5100 !
By: cisco : September 4th, 2012-09:42
A fantastic deisgn, a beautiful caliber, the pleasure to wind it 1000 times before it's completely wound up (who could consider that as a disadvantage :) ) The 5059 has not such a beautiful caliber though complicated, and proportions are question of taste...
If I were to choose..

I would, like many other members of this community, consider what I need to fill the "immediatete" gap in my collection. Personally, I do own a 5100R and a 5059P. You have mentioned that you think the case of 5059P is wrongly-proportioned. So it's been ru...
Many things
By: cisco : September 12th, 2012-06:48
The case is a strong design, very classy, not "weak", or "easy". The caliber is a wonder, very smooth to wind up, with nice bevelage compared to "basic" calibers of Patek. The grey dial works well with the rose gold. It is a really special watch imho. che...
Thank you Oliver,

it is funny how different watches look good or not so good in different metals. I could consider 3940J but never 5040J. At the same time 5100G is top for me, 5100P quite nice, 5100R okay and again 5100J dull in my eyes. I'm still considering the toppic. T...
5100 R !
By: dirost : September 12th, 2012-13:02
Imho, don't hesitate : 5100 R with its ruthenium dial... If I had the choice, I would say that I have a little preference for the 5100 R but I had the opportunity to put a R at my wrist, and it is gorgeous too. Anyway, I'm in love for this specific watch ...
FINAL VERDICT
By: dr.kol : September 18th, 2012-06:07
Thank you all for your input. Before going to the Final Verdict and the reasoning, I have to present the Temporary Solution: So I bought this Baby less than two weeks ago, brand new. It helped me to think clearer and I must say that this GO is the cleanes...
Patek 5140P
By: dr.kol : September 18th, 2012-08:41
You don't have any kind of idea how often I have examined this watch. I love it! But the dial is a bit messy and I need time to decide if I am getting bored with the dial or not. However, I am prepared to own one day 3940(X) and 5140P. What comes to 5100G...
You are right Nico!
By: dr.kol : September 18th, 2012-08:48
I agree that 5140 is more legible than 3940. However, the dial is too full and messy while 3940 is very elegant in my opinion. Yes, let's both get our 5100G and then we can arrange a photo session in Paris, Estonia or Lapland. Best, Kari
Iagree with you Nico!
By: dr.kol : September 18th, 2012-09:12
If it would matter, then we would not love our 5110P - right? I think Patek fucked up a bit when they created 5140. If they would have made the watch still one mm larger and the writing in the dial a bit smaller, they could have maintained the layout of t...
