Although I never owned one (yet), 5100 is one of my favorites: 5100 G as a first choice, and 5100 R if choice 1 is really out of reach (but the G version is simply Arrrgh !). Don't be confused: listen to your heart, listen to your friends here, but at the... 

I will surely make my own decision and it might be a watch nobody likes. I am just trying to find some new aspects I have not been able to consider (like i.e. "You can't see the time from 5040 because of lacking contrast on the dial. " Or "5100 is so high...

Indeed, I really know what I'm going to get: I have decided a couple of time to have 5040, as many times 5100 and the same applies to 5059... I guess many here know the feeling. I also have too many watches (even I have reduced the number of them dramatic... 

Actually, I like all three references you mentioned. 5040 is a very classic and thin watch while 5059 is significantly thicker. Both wear very differently on the wrist. I slightly prefer 5040 since 5059 is a little bit too thick for its size. But I trust ...

I really got many new ideas to think over from your reply. First of all, I guess my wrist is medium+ meaning 8 inches. I am worried about the thickness because I'm hitting the watch everywhere and if the watch is both small plus thick, it looks in my eyes...

The case is a strong design, very classy, not "weak", or "easy". The caliber is a wonder, very smooth to wind up, with nice bevelage compared to "basic" calibers of Patek. The grey dial works well with the rose gold. It is a really special watch imho. che...

It is a very strong contender. It would be easy between 5040R and 5100R but 5040G vs. 5100R is much more difficult. Best, Kari

to have options and we mature with our decisions ... :-) 5040 and 5059 are both beautiful watches, but the 5100 is too hard to resist. It is a gorgeous watch and not only because of the movement. Personally I would prefer white metal, but that´s only me. ...  

it is funny how different watches look good or not so good in different metals. I could consider 3940J but never 5040J. At the same time 5100G is top for me, 5100P quite nice, 5100R okay and again 5100J dull in my eyes. I'm still considering the toppic. T...

Imho, don't hesitate : 5100 R with its ruthenium dial... If I had the choice, I would say that I have a little preference for the 5100 R but I had the opportunity to put a R at my wrist, and it is gorgeous too. Anyway, I'm in love for this specific watch ... 

Thank you all for your input. Before going to the Final Verdict and the reasoning, I have to present the Temporary Solution: So I bought this Baby less than two weeks ago, brand new. It helped me to think clearer and I must say that this GO is the cleanes...

You don't have any kind of idea how often I have examined this watch. I love it! But the dial is a bit messy and I need time to decide if I am getting bored with the dial or not. However, I am prepared to own one day 3940(X) and 5140P. What comes to 5100G...

I agree that 5140 is more legible than 3940. However, the dial is too full and messy while 3940 is very elegant in my opinion. Yes, let's both get our 5100G and then we can arrange a photo session in Paris, Estonia or Lapland. Best, Kari
