Baselworld leak rumors of facts?

Mar 17, 2015,12:06 PM

Hi, read some rumors of what is to come from PP this week. By no means verified or necessarily complete but thought I would post here for those interested. My personal take summarized below, but please feel free to comment. I hope this post is not considered inappropriate in any way.

5370P-001: black arabic dial 39mm split second chronograph housing manual CH 29-535 PS movement with 65hr power reserve (new movement)

5905P-001: blue stick dial 40.5mm annual calendar chronograph housing automatic CH 28-520 IRM QA movement with 55hr power reserve (also found in 5960P)
5905P-010: black stick dial 40.5mm annual calendar chronograph housing automatic CH 28-520 IRM QA movement with 55hr power reserve (also found in 5960P)

5524G-001: black arabic dial 40.5mm travel time chronograph housing automatic CH 28-520 C FUS movement with 55hr power reserve (also found in 5990/1A)

5131R: enamel dial (pacific ocean map as in 5131G) 39.5mm world time housing automatic 240 HU movement with 48hr power reserve (not much to add here)
5711/1R: brown stick dial 40mm Nautilus housing automatic 324 SC movement with 45hr power reserve (not much to add here)

5227G: black dial release (gorgeous!)
6000G: blue dial release
5073P: blue dial release
5207P: black dial release (yes please….. in any color variation)
6102P: black dial release

New annual calendar for ladies as well with diamonds, look like updates to 4936 or 4937 but not sure. Also new gray Aquanaut with diamonds for ladies.

My immediate thoughts:
- 5370P, unfortunately likely to be out of my target range. However congratulate those who will be able to get one as it looks amazing! New movement an exciting point as well.
- 5905P, new renditions of the 5960 it looks like. Pushers gone rectangular from pump so possibly addresses the stiffness in 5960. Sleeker look overall but personally a fan of 5960 so will take some convincing before falling for it.
5524G: daring military look. Simply do not get it. Hope others disagree.
5131R: perhaps a little low in imagination, but suppose there will be some that wish to pursue a complete set. Guess it will be followed by 5131P which would have same world view as 5131J. This way one could have a colored and a white metal each showing the same part of the world. Europeans could get a 5131P and 5131J and Asian could go for 5131R and 5131G. Americans could go for all. Just food for thought.
5711/1R: perhaps the Nautilus range will see the light next year being the 40th so no matter how much I was hoping for something more exciting it is by no means something unwelcome. I just wish they could go with dials other than brown for the rose golds. Would love to see more black dials or even whiter dials for that matter.

The rest mostly color variations of already beautiful pieces, always welcomed as we all have different preferences there.

Overall slightly disappointing to see so little news that wets my mouth. Would be great to see some new pieces (new meaning more than color variations) that could function more as daily pieces, perhaps a little lower price wise within their offerings. But again, this is by no means complete so hopefully there will be others to look forward to!

Rumors against rumors? Let's wait a few days, we'll know facts. Best, Nicolas

everything he said is correct

I have pictures but won't post them to save Oliver some time :-) There is still an embargo … 5131 G and J are discontinued, R and maybe later P were expected The 5224 is really strange … so NOT-Patek …. but I like the fact that they offer a new pilot spor...

agree… very strange

5224G… I am baffled. But again, I like the idea behind the line and hopefully it looks much better in the flesh!

These aren't rumors they are factual releases and there are more...

That are not shown here. There are 2 new 5270's with the chin gone. Two are WG ones and one is the new RG one. So yes these are the new releases like them or not. I can say I am excited to see the 5131R and will look forward to getting one! Cheers,

5370P just for Amanico

Most of the new Pateks were just like warming the same meal for the third or fourth time. The pilot's watch is simply terrible! I'm more and more convinced that the Brand is sliding down and fast. Very fast. But I have still one reservation: perhaps someb...

What's next? PP "discovering" their diving heritage? Their affilation with motorcar racing? Special editions named after famous/forgotten racetracks? PP on the moon? Astronaut's limited edition? And why not go the Monblanc pen way? First, a range of watch...

Seems like the selected road.

It takes a long time, always decades and sometimes longer, the built the brand image. And everything can be ruined very quickly. Looking at the last moves of the Brand including the price adjustments, I have a feeling that they are very lost. If the "engi...

old or "odd" pricing ?

Just look at how Jaguar and Bentley have tweaked the XK and Conti GT and never got it right - a bit more chrome here, revised headlights, special editions... Looking at the new PP models I am really stuggling to see how their future will look like...

I cn't really see that in the future Patek would be

Primus Inter Pares. Just one of the high end brands. But being one of many, the insane pricing will not anymore be justified. My crystal ball says that Patek will have difficulties to sell their production, we will see more and more PP in the grey market ...

Officially there are 233 models in ...

I don't think there is a reason to judge Patek too strong and implicitely.

EDJA, thanks!

PP has posted the 2105 new models on their website. They were up last week.. What will be fun to see in real photos are this years hand finished dials on the 5296 case style watches. I agree on the brown dial on the 5711r being a poor combination. The 514...

Not sure if I am the only one feeling this way. But the Patek Ref 5524 looks very much like a Zenith Pilot , I must say ! Good or Bad ? Will it be popular with PP collectors, I wonder.

Hi keks, my take on the 5131R and 5131P is that

 By: GLau : March 19th, 2015-09:30
5131R is needed to complete the set of different metals 5131P IMO will consist of a top down view of the world from the North Pole - make sense ?

top view

 By: keks : March 21st, 2015-16:00
World view from top sounds interesting conceptually, but would be a lot of tundra and ice. Hope they come up with something special and creative but my bet would be (possibly a slightly modified yet) the world view from J will be used on the P. Something ...

Gallery of 5131 R pictures... They are featuring a white metal one... When I was pretty sure Patek announced the 5131G to be discontinued. So, I was wondering, for a moment, if there was not a P somewhere, till I saw that La Paz was not mentioned on the d...

You would have another alternative for an enamel piece, assuming that you would like the map on this potential reference!! :-)

But I already put the 5131 G is my list of enamel contenders.

It is just that I am not good enough to get one in normal conditions... Best, Nicolas

Hi Keks, as a qualifier, this photo is for illustration only, not a brand comparion

I would imagine this type of map, which is similar to VC and other brands (UN, etc.) that have also used the top down view What do you think? Somehow my gut tells me the 5131P has to be this map !! Cheers, Gordon [ amateur dial designer hoping Patek will ...

I hope you have it your way

 By: keks : March 22nd, 2015-10:07
Would be great to see some variety. Somehow still think they will go with the J view for the P though… conservative approach seem to be their game. But if the stars align and they hire you to design dials, anything is possible. I hope they discover you so...

Hi keks, thanks for your good wishes !!

 By: GLau : March 22nd, 2015-10:42
Each of the 5131 has a different map and P is going be no different [ pun intended :-) ]. Trust me on this one please. However, I will unlikely be discovered by Patek during my life time, and so I need to take my watch design destiny in my own hands and w...
