A few years ago I decided I wanted to acquire a 5970J, but while searching I was offered a 5970P in perfect condition and complete. I couldn’t resist.

I thought to myself, platinum is platinum and in many ways at least for me it is the ultimate metal in a watch. But the thought of yellow never quite left me and so about a year later I began the search. As usual I wanted one that was mint unpolished and complete. One that I could wear immediately. When I was offered one that was double sealed I thought why not? But then after acquiring this “neo vintage” marvel that might be the only DS in the World I vacillated back and forth as to what to do? Since I planned to wear the watch I knew it made much more sense to have a preowned one. I searched. I tried. Didn’t happen. I almost literally felt like the DS was calling out: “ help, get me out of here” and so yesterday I gave in to that thought and could not be happier.
I know it is a bit redundant to have 2 of the same reference. Makes much more sense to not have duplications, but as logical as that is, that is just not me. Eg If I see a sweater I love I buy 4 of the same thing in different colors. Kind of silly, no?
Anyway, I think the P and J, which are the 2 rarest of the standard production are so different in character that I feel almost like they are 2 different watches. Also it is my favorite reference of the modern era. For me it is a perfect watch.
I am wondering which do you prefer, the P or the J?
And does it make any sense to you at all to own 2 5970s, versus eg a 5970 and a 5370P, another fantastic watch?
I hope you enjoy the images and don’t mind my self reflections.
