How often you need chrono? How often date, day, month?
WG gets yellow with time, platinum is always platinum.
Best,
Kari
This or that? 5905P vs 5172G

Two blue big hitter chronographs at comparable price point 5905: + Case with concave bezel 60 min counter Great heft Automatic Platinum Day/date 5172: + Movement/finishing Heritage Manual "Pure" "Future classic" What is your take? Recommendations? Thomas ...
5172!

For me it’s no contest. But I have a deep love for manual chronos, so I might not be totally objective. I also prefer the seringue hands. In any case, best of luck in your choice. You really can’t go wrong either way. Cheers, David

Patek manual chronograph is hard to beat. Though I agree the combination of automatic chronograph + annual calendar + concave bezel + platinum case is also very attractive. Best, Henry
Another vote for the 5172

1. Movement, a different level of watchmaking in my view also much more impressive to look at. 2. Proportions of the case (although with they kept it the same diameter as the old watch) 3. Dial is really classic and works so well in person. This is a watc...
Thanks, Galt!

Nice to hear from someone who has seen 5172 in the real world (I haven't). I think I somewhat disagree on point 2). I find the case of the 5960 and 5905 absolutely sublime, whereas I found the 5170 case a little bit bland (though superb in other areas). 5...
Thanks, Kari!

1-5!! I have use for a chronograph almost daily, because I give lectures and host workshops all the time. It feels impolite to use my phone to check the timing, because I might come of as "distant". Also, I tell the attendees to put their phones away. Unf...

The 5905’s height and diameter are a bit big for my wrist but the platinum is spectacular to look at! I seldom wear my 5930, too busy? The 5270 also spend a lot of time in the safe. Just picked up Lange’s version of the 5170, love the simple, no date layo...

Thank you! I'm a former 1815 chrono 1 gen owner and I completely understand your choice. Movement side is certainly superior. Pushers as well. I prefer a white dial though, that they don't offer for some reason. Thomas
Tough choice

One is sportier and automatic and other is more classic and manual. Quite different even though similar at first glance. I would go 5170P personally..... but if choice is solely between these two then I would vote 5905 for its modern look and superior met...

No real bad choice between the two! I like: The usefulness of the calendar function The heft of the platinum case ... and a little against the grain ... the automatic movement. Neither watch will be future "classics" ... but that doesn't mean they're not ...
Wrap up: 8-8 😀😀

To wrap up: Based on your feedback I'm now at 52/48 in favor of the 5905. The most important asset is for me the case and the material + of course the combination of functions. Both heavy hitters in the chronograph segment, equally loved by the Purist com...
