Patek Philippe

The regrets of a past Patek owner

Greetings all,

I hope I may trouble you all for a moment.  Im in the need of some advice and I can think of no better forum. Like all of you, I have a passion for fine timepieces. I find them to be the most wonderful intersection of art, science, and craftsmanship.  They are also a constant reminder that some things are still "made the way they used to be", knowing that many many precision hours were required to produce this machine that allows me to know what time it is.  It is a long and unimportant story, but unfortunately I am not in posession of a number of timepieces that I used to own and it is a source of regret for me.  I am, however, going to remedy that as the future unfolds, which leads me to my question that I would appreciate some guidence on.  A little over 20 years ago I bought my first Patek, 5010 pictured below.  I had also purchased the 5015 and pretty much gave it to my father to wear.  Well, I made the terrible mistake of selling them a decade ago...and to a jeweler to really make matters worse.  Not being in the same area of business as I once was, I require a higher level of certainty before comitting to life purchases.  And while the purchase of this PP wouldn't fall quite into that category, as it would cost well under five figures, the other PP that I would love to own one day would most certainly be a life purchase...for me at least, the new annual calander with the Breguet numerals, 5396.  Now Im obviously not asking for opinions on which is nicer, as thats a no brainer.  Its more of a situation where I would love to eradicate
that feeling of regret and I can do that by either easily purchasing the gondolo that I used to own, or obtain a timepiece over a longer period of time that is in a whole different league. I also love one of the hallmark Breguet Classiques, 7137 with the moonphase and power reserve but my dear friend insists that it must be a Patek, and 5396 only.  So if anyone has any guidence that they'd be willing to share Id greatly appreciate it.  Perhaps the gondolo is a bit out of fashion today...perhaps someone can relate to my predicament on some level.

Regards,

Mike
