i love Grand Seiko's from the earliest to the modern models. i only wish i could invest more funds into them as i consider them as equal in quality to Omega, Rolex and far better than many Swiss brands.
they just ooze quality and accuracy.

What an informative and beautifully written review (plus lovely pics!) on Grand Seiko manuals! You have unconsciously succeeded in making me want to acquire one of these masterpieces so if anyone out there has one to sell, please get in touch. I normally only collect Patek and Lange and the allegedly 'boring looking' Grand Seiko offers an enate charm which is hard to ignore. The fact that they are priced as well as they are make them a must have.

Well done and thank you once again.

Thanks for the comments!

Hi Sham1,

You are right, they are masterpieces.

If you do want to get a GS, try a WTB (want to buy) advert in the Collector's Mart section of this website. I'm not sure of the dealer situation in the UK but there are several Japanese dealers that supply customers worldwide.

Good hunting.

Help needed

Thanks for the excellent post. It got me intrigued and I am considering my first GS.

Is there a difference in the dial between the SBGW001 and SBGW031?

And have you tried putting a leather strap on the SBGW035?

Thanks.

Hi Ian,

I've noticed Seiko dials are very subtle, and there do seem to be minor differences in the dials from model to model. To my eyes. Other people say they don't see a difference. It might be production variation, or aging of a single watch.

I think the watch you are considering is very close to the one I have, with the enhancements of an updated movement and a see-through case back.

Regarding the strap, yes I have put straps on virtually all my Seikos. Most of my bracelets are in Ziplock sandwich bags, labeled with permanent markers so I don't forget which bracelet fits which watch.

The GS tang buckles are nice, but expensive and hard to find, and the 2-3 deployant I have tried are even more expensive and are uncomfortable, so I don't use them.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Yes, I am considering the SBGW035. I think it's an updated version of SBGW005. I don't quite fancy the look of the bracelet and I think the watch would be very nice on a brown or navy blue leather strap. I was wondering if you have a pic of your SBGW005 on leather strap. If you do, could you share it here?

By the way, I think the SBGW033 is exquisite. But it's probably hard to find one.

Thank you.

Regards,

ian

My thoughts

First, check here if you haven't already:

I don't have any photos on me, and I won't have access to those watches for a few days. But it looks just like the SBGW001 but with a blue hand.
