I can say it, this re edition of the Vintage Egiziano is a big hit!

Here, the Vintage model:



This is indeed a very faithful work from Panerai.

All is respected and with the exception of the golden hands which don't figure on this re edition ( but it may be different when Panerai will release it, as they did it with the 232, for example ), I can truely say that I love a lot this watch.

Panerai opted for a titanium case, which is wise, as the watch, which is 60mm big, and I'd say around 25 / 30 mm thick, would be too heavy in SS.

The layout of the dial is superb, with the Luminova Vintage tinted, and these writings which respect the original.

And the specific bezel for this model is also stunning, with these scarce indexes.







The sapphire adds to the impressive thickness of this Diving Watch.

Here you can see, better than only reading numbers, that the thickness is really important:



And a solid case back hides the P 2002 manual wound movement, with 8 Days of power reserve, exactly like in the original ( which was " motorized by the Angelus movement ).



The only question is to know if a lot of people will jump on this LE of 300 pieces, due to its important dimensions.

Let's say that this watch is unwearable, even for big wrists, and it is even more problematic because of the long lugs.





But, in the same time, this is really a bog bad boy, and a very tempting one!

If some of you already have the 127, the Cali, and the Compass, I think that this Egiziano is a must have.

It is indeed difficult to miss the opportunity to get one of these historical re editions...

Except if you bet on the fact that Panerai will release a smaller version of this Egiziano, with the same case, dial, and case back, but in 47mm...

Only Panerai knows.

to be worned as a daily watch but i think maybe more for the collectability...

i wear my pam191 occassionally, although it makes me look alittle like a clown

a smaller 47 (if they would ever think about it)  won't be the same. the Egiziano was and therefore must be 60 mm. But as you said, how do you wear such a watch ? Imo it is THE collectors item, and if you allow me I think it's even more special than the 203. A 203 might have a more important movement but the 1950 case is not that special, a lot of watches use this case while the Egiziano will imo always be a very unique Panerai. A poll from another person on another site made me think about this Egiziano or 203.

Well, if I could afford it and if I could get one .... please give me the EGIZIANO !

Now serious .... this is indeed a serious watch and a very nice one .... but offcourse too big for the wrist.
But as you stated, i can imagie this will be a serious collector's item.

This is one piece i'm gonna get! And i'm on the way to being the 1st in Japan to get it!

I do have a few questions which i wish to know:

1). I understand from Anthony that the bezel rotates in both directions, but in what increment does it turn? 1 minute? Or 5 minutes per each huge sparse index?

2). From your case side profile shot, it seems that the sapphire glass sticks OUT and above the bezel, is the top of the crystal NOT flush with the bezel as most watches are? e.g. In the Rolex Deepsea, it also has a crystal that is 5mm thick, but that crystal is totally flat with respects to the bezel.

3). From your caseback shot, i don't seem to the the markings for the LE serial number, where usually even if this is the prototype you could at least see the L 0\300, or will that add that on later for the production version?

1/ As for the bezel, it is per minute, not per five minutes.

2/ Yes, the crystal is not flush with the bezel, but you see that on the Rolex Sub 1680, for example, and on some other Vintage Watches.

3/ No marking for the moment, because it is a proto, and Panerai may make less or more than the 300 previously announced.

Don't forget the platinum Cali, for example, which was announced for 50 pieces, nd finally, 99 pieces were made...

Will I get one?

I'm thinking of it...

But in this case, I would also have to hunt a 127, and a Compass...

I saw Panerai change the look ( and the size ) of their hands, but not the size of the case...

I, too, dream of a 47mm Egiziano.

Not to confuse with the " Small Egiziano ", which is another different watch.

The only people who I think will buy it are flippers and the really die-hard Panerai fans who appreciate Panerai's history.  Everyone else who buys this piece will probably eventually sell it off because it's, to put it frankly, unwearable unless you're as a big as Shaq O'Neil.

I commend Panerai a lot of making this re-edition but it's definitely not a watch for most people.  It will get some hype IMO but hype will die down the same way as what happened with the 61mm Panerai Black Seal Compass IMO.

And also, it's the best i can get to a piece of Panny's history! As i mentioned before, due to a skin allergy, i doubt i could wear any actual vintage Panerai even if i could acquire one, so this 341 to me is even better, and the only choice for a Egiziano!

There are a lot of Old School Guys, here and there, who will consider it for what it is: A True Piece of Pa,erai History, as I said to Stephen.

You, for example, are the happy owner of the 21 and the 203...

You " only " have to add the Compass and this Egiziano, and you will have the Best of Panerai!

I think that many who own 47mm Luminor and Rads would see it like that, and as the Compass is not that expensive...It may also help the Compass!

But if you don't already have a 47mm Luminor Panerai, you should also consider one, like the 127 or the 217...

And you will have something like that:



Replace the Torch by a Luminor, and imagine the " allure " of your Collection!

But i havent found one yet! Well not exactly, you see, i have a strict principle that i would never buy from the grey market, so i have yet to find a 127 or 217 from an AD! Which is the only possible way i could find myself getting one!

Well, if i miss those 2, i'm sure one day in the not too distant future Panny would come out with another, like the 1950 base that all of us have been talking about !
