Remembering your first watch

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a special place in my heart for my first 'real' watch. Here's a post of mine, an Omega Megaquartz 32 KHz, which I bought in 1976, and which is still working today. I'm also attaching a pic of it as it was when I bought it, alongside a Seamaster I acquired at the same time. Unfortunately, I no longer have the Seamaster, but the Megaquartz is still a daily wear. What was your first 'real' watch, and do you still have it?

I bought this Submariner in 1995 and wore it for nearly twenty years before returning to the Omega Constellation in my first post. Was I right to change back from Rolex to Omega, from mechanical to electronic? Just a question of taste I suppose?

My first "real" watch, and a mechanical one, that I bought for myself back in 1993. I suppose real is subjective and excluding those that were gifted, this is probably it. Still with me, and still runs, though I don't wear it anymore as I have a lot of difficulty telling the exact time and it's not the most legible dials out there.

. . . (and, btw, I like your phrasing!) was a Rolex AirKing, acquired in '86. Sadly, no images to share; I let it go before owning a digital camera.

So my first self obtained 'real' watch is a PAM 359
and, no I do not own it anymore. Traded it in (together with a Rolex GMT II steel/gold) for a PAM 379 (which got traded in for an IWC Portugese Perpetual). Don't miss the PAM359. Do miss the GMT II though. Sadly a gold Rolex is bit frowned upon in these parts of the world so more difficult to wear on a daily (corporate) basis.

What a great looking timepiece!
I can honestly say that I've never seen the Thunderbird before. It's a really handsome watch. The bezel has shades of the Yachtmaster about it, but the blue face does it for me. Beautiful!

... So nice to know about those first watches of our friends here!
My first watch was a present from my Parents for my First Communion in 1957 I guess, so I was 9 years old then.
I happen to still own that watch, which bravely resisted the hardships of my school days.
I can´t count how many changes of plexi and leather straps it required during those school and high school years.
(You know, childs and teenagers can get a little rough sometimes!)
I remember that one day my Mom changed the straps for a gray color nylon "nato-type" set as she was so tired of spending time and money with that many replacements.
A few years ago I found this little watch abandoned in a drawer, still with those ugly gray nylon straps on.
I cleaned it a little, replaced the nylon straps with a nice Morellatto leather set which surely costs much more than the watch itself and winded it again.
The watch is working fairly well in spite of the many years without wearing it, though I´m sure its movement is needing a good cleaning and oiling.
The watch is of some unknown brand "Liga" and the humble but strong and reliable manual wind movement seems to be some "AS" variant.
I´m happy to have it in my collection today, a true old workhorse!

It's all about nostalgia!
I'm a great believer in nostalgia, myself. Things attach themselves to us, and us to them; perhaps nothing more so than a watch. It measures time, as we do. It's there on all the important occasions in our lives - telling us when things will happen and when it's too late for them to happen. We trust a watch, as we trust a reliable friend. So, just like a friend, we don't throw them away when they get old and unreliable. We keep them and treasure them, despite their shortcomings.
