Chime off...I am fortunate enough to have these 2 references. Which do you think sound better. I feel that the PP has better rhythm and musicality but the AP has its own charm. Which do you prefer?
The AP regulator looks very interesting, but I like the cleaner look of the Patek, which I had the privilege to handle and listen to last summer (thank you Mr Vergotti).
In white metal, I would go for the AP. The regulator plus the jumping hour and the minute repeater... Great combination. BUT I would first go for the one which better sounds. And here,
While I’ve never listened to that specific Patek, the sound of their MR is IMO just unbeatable.

And aesthetically, to me it also wins over your other AP. In any event, those are both truly spectacular pieces, so congrats regardless of any rankings!😍😉
It's a wonderful reference with no extra complications (which can obscure the sound). Simple understated case and white enamel dial that doesn't give a hint of what's underneath. It embodies all that Patek is!
I actually like the Roman Numeral version of the 5078P a little better

It's a true classic. To me Peter Speake-Marin simply copied this classic layout that had been employed long before his wrist watches even existed. The beauty of the 5078P is that it doesn't seem like anything special until you really start to inspect it ... and then it's VERY SPECIAL!
So I cannot judge the sound. On the other side the PP is "simply" a beautiful and elegant watch with a great complication. The AP adds some elements to the design and to the movement that make it more peculiar. I would go for the AP.
I have had the pleasure handling both pieces and listen to them. Sadly a few years apart so I couldn’t say which one sounds best. And however interesting and impressive the AP is, that 5078 made me fall in love after a few minutes on the wrist. And I’m not even really into classical watches.
I personally like the PP better - both for its aesthetics and acoustically. Unfortunately I couldn’t load a video of both watches but on the AP, you can hear the regulator whirling when the repeater is engaged. This bothers me quite a lot and is an issue that they have rectified with their new current repeaters. The PP is almost deadly quiet.
