Omega

The first watch I can remember...

The first watch I can remember was an OMEGA (believe it or not...!) Geneve automatic, goldplated which I received at a gift at ten...

It was much too early for such a valuable watch and I did not care much about it - so it was beaten up soon.

After some years my mother gave it to my uncle as a gift as I did not use the watch any more.

Some watches followed and I can remembers a Citizen automatic and a Heli Raymond..., nothing serious...

I started collecting seriously with some NOS Eterna automatics which I was lucky enough to buy at reasonable prices from a watchmaker´s widow...

After my uncle had died I remembered the Omega and for some nostalgic feeling I bought it back for a bargain due to it´s poor condition (I had already started collecting watches at that time and with Omega as a special theme).

The condition of the watch is awful:

The winding unit had been removed (fortunately I got it as it was kept in a box in a drawer) and it has to be wound manually but it still keeps reasonably time.

The gold plating has worn off, the dial has marks and it looks pretty beaten.

I am not sure if I should restore the watch as it shows so much of it´s history...  it is my first watch!

kind regards

Erich
