Some of these vintage (late 1930s to 1940s) tissot chronographs have actually been fetching decent prices at Antiquorum - a near mint (dial had some blemishes) stainless steel example sold for $5000 about a year and a half ago (and the gold ones have been going for well over melt value as well).

I think many of these early ones will be saved...
...by the collector interest, but it's the 50s - 60s that will go to the melter just because the collector market isn't strong enough to support them.

This case style was associated with fixed lugs (don't really know the reason behind it) in both tissot gold plated cases and solid gold omega cases. And it is a snapback case which I would agree typically does not go with fixed lugs but there you go...
