For me, this Omega doesn't embody that history. Perhaps a true-to-original reissue might, but not this one. Just my opinion of course. Word is that this will be in the USD $60K range, which I view as an astonishing price for such a basic movement. But I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.

with perhaps the only modern concession being a sapphire crystal case back to showcase the cal 321 (or even better, two case backs: one solid, one sapphire).

I don't think this will power the regular steel Speedy. They just upgraded the caliber 1861 to become 3861 (with co-axial). It does not make sense to sell same watch with different caliber. I think the caliber 321 will be reserved for special edition Spee...
