Sharing Aroma's opinion:

Understandable that the Musée has instituted a fee since they became inundated with requests from all over the world. Probably a half-day's job for one or two people. The available info however is very meagre to say the least.

In the archives the countries of destination are noted in 3- or 4 digit code. Unfortunately a complete cross-reference list of all countries has since long disappeared and persons who might remember or know by heart are no longer alive. A great number of (larger) countries have been re-traced or de-cyphered by comparing with other available information but there are still quite some 'unknowns'. So you might end up with f.i. "delivered probably to the Channel Islands" or simply "1123" / "1234". Looks mysterious but utterly useless.

Then there are the inevitable bookpages that are completely unreadable (damaged?) or showing voids / hiatuses because of omissions. Remember, it's all people's labour from the past and with these vast numbers it cannot be 100% foolproof. Despite all this: a monumental source of info but whether it deserves the extract-fee to be paid in advance is another matter - the result could be very sobering!

cheers,  Ben.
