I was talking to a collector that specializes in '69s . . .

. . . who was impressed by its condition. As well he should, seeing as how it had been literally found in a drawer after four decades.
The original owner was Fern Pacquet, a horse chariot driver (or would it be jockey?) who was awarded the Speedmaster for his services as a trainer at Pompano Beach in the early '70s. In the late '70s he was involved in an accident at Pompano Beach where he scraped the Speedy against the guard rail, knocking some of the hands off. Apparently he stashed it away in a drawer where it remained until his son Fern Pacquet Jr discovered it recently. Jr sold it to a So Cal watch dealer who obtained an extract from Omega confirming its integrity.
Here's a photo of Fern Sr . . .
. . . taken in the '70s. A watch with a black dial can be seen on his wrist.
What are the chances?
