Hello Art

I am not sure this would be entirely connected to the few instances of 3861 that seem to have cropped up. Besides watch geeks like us, who spend a lot of time on fora discussing these issues, I do not believe the general public is aware of them. So a few WIS might have gone for the 1861 because of the 3861 teething issues, but I am willing to bet that the large majority of people who did is because the 1861 represents significantly better value vs. the 3861.

You look at the accessories provided in the 1861 box (2 straps, tools, literatture, etc.) that are no longer present with the 3861, and then the fact that the latter is $1,000 more expensive despite losing all these accessories (a couple of Omega straps will set you back > $300 at retail price), and it is easy to understand why people will go for the former.

In my case, the bracelet of the 1861 was a show stopper, and I much prefer that of the 3861, together with the sligtly reduced dimensions and stepped dial. But for anyone who is happy with the old bracelet / dimensions / details, then I think it's really a no brainer to pick the 1861.

I posted a month ago about an issue with my recetly acquired 3861 Speemaster, which required to send it back to Omega for a fix. I just got the watch back yesterday, tested the chronograph mutiple times, and the issue seems to have been fixed. I will do a...

. . . one of my pals bought a hesalite 1861 from an AD last week and relayed some interesting feedback: demand is purportedly up for the 1861, and substantial discounts are now offered on 3861 models. I've no idea if that's true, but if it is, I wonder if...

Your Speedmaster works fine. My Omega is fine. I have great experience with Longines and the Sellita in my B and M. I am curious how my Omega will be, and i knew my watch can be fixed by certified Omega repair center. Still running good, fingers crossed.

Glad to hear...hope it is a "permanent" fix.

I feel present watch with, instead of 3861, previous 1861 movement would be a perfect Speedmaster for me. I know that's not possible now. Ship has sailed..

My new 3861 is at SGUS in Secaucus, NY...

It took a couple of weeks of daily winding before the movement allowed smooth winding to the recommended 60 winds for full power reserve, 60 hours. Like every manual movement daily beater I've put on my wrist I gently wind it x 17+/- every morning. After ...
