So I’m scrolling, as one does, and I see a picture of an Omega I’ve not registered before.
Looks interesting from just the picture, colouring and the design (crown is embedded, almost hidden, in the case).
I see “Ultra Light”, titanium and titanium movement. Even more interested now.
Could this be the first Omega for me in about a decade (I do love the white dial speedy for what it’s worth, and was very very close to buying one of the Tokyo 2020 speedys).
Unfortunately I then go to the Omega site to check it out and see the price. US$51,300.
Wowza. What am I missing here? Is this a “just because we can price”? I get that a titanium movement is on the novel side, but is it fifty thousands times novel?
This is not a criticism, rather and search for justification on the pricing. Any thoughts folks?

What R&D? They removed the automatic winding and made the bridges and baseplate from titanium.
By the way this model was released 4 years ago, this is just a different color combination.
Anyone remember the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light from 2019?
Weighs only 55 grams and CHF45,000... ...
I was thinking $5k-10k range when I first saw it.
It’s cool, I like the design. And it would not be a watch anyone would be interested in taking off your wrist ! But $50k?

Reduce the price and the size,
I like the style, the 2019 version with blue highlights. 37mm and a 1/10th of the price and I would have one. Nice to look though.

And not sure if that helps the watch industry. In my case I feel bored and disappointed! So I simply ignore it and buy brands that did not loose ground and customer perception! But yes there are certainly willing to pay these levels - I don‘t!
Once I asked to a brand why do you ask so much for your watches. The answer was...
" Do you know why a dog can lick its balls? " No, I said. He answered me: " Because it can ". I think you have your answer.
One can find a Panerai titanium for a fraction of the price.
But if you’re an Olympic athlete with a deep pocket sponsor, why not? It’s all about the flex.
I love the color and the material Ti but…
… I am not a fan of the case shape. Hiding the crown like that is quite ugly IHMO and not easy to use. But there are tastes and colors for everyone. That is why life is good 😉

I could understand the actual watch on his wrist for the gold and world record being this price!
At least that one has some provenance to justify the extra $40k !
A great athlete
Pretty amazing athlete with a long stretch of outstanding performances. Unless Duplantis have another go at it, 6.25 will probably survive the 2032 Olympics. He`s been competing using Ultra Lights for at least 2 or maybe 3 Diamond League seasons. Femke Bo...

A somewhat similar launch strategy to what Omega did with the recent white dial Speedmaster, and what Rolex did with their titanium Yacht Master.

Ugly AND extremely expensive
is just a bit much all at once. With a heavy heart I have to pass.
Not for everyone design wise, but that’s the secondary point here.
I do like it, but I expected to see a price under 1/5th of the actual retail. That was what drove me to post it.
This could have been a new and sought after line in omega.

Just let me you I like the concept and the design, while not for everyone, is pleasing enough. But at that price point I find it insults the intelligence, since there’s nothing logical to justify the level. Maybe the current stock market prices of Swatch ...
Many manufacturers find one can cream off of the ultra light trend 🤷🏻♂️

I like the looks actually, that’s how I stumbled upon it.
I was looking for a cheaper, cool to me, sporty watch that was not a Rolex. The price did really shock me.
