The Weight is Over?

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 27th, 2019-22:29
Just saw this new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra light weight sports watch, only 55 grams. The watch also features Omega’s first Ti movement. Everything looks promising, no date, nice hidden crown.... until I saw the price....really!? Is it a typo? ...

I agree, initial cost of R&D can be high, resulting in this...

It’s just me, I’ll rather spend this amount on a heavier Lange 😬

:-)) ;-) [nt]

 By: FabR : August 28th, 2019-00:12

I wonder what the development costs were for the titanium movement . . .

 By: Dr No : August 27th, 2019-22:54
. . . and how many watches Omega will have to sell to cover them. ;-)

Consumers to absorb this development cost...not sure the vast majority of Omega audience is ready...

Unless this is smaller independent companies but a conglomerate? We’ll see ...

+1 [nt]

Nice R&D piece

 By: VinnieD : August 27th, 2019-23:14
Unfortunately Omega is no Richard Mille and won't be able to pull it off. As they say in the mechanical sports area for all components: - it can be light - it can be strong - it can be cheap Pick two adjectives among the three

Maybe as they become very good at it and start mass producing, they will be more ...

“User friendly” 😂 I’m not ready to pay this level of dough yet for the brand, just me.

Nice technical advancement

 By: Brandon Skinner : August 27th, 2019-23:29
Though (sadly) I feel its aesthetically underwhelming

Technically very interesting.

 By: jlux : August 28th, 2019-00:03
I do not see however how all of this would be relevant for the typical Omega customer ...at that price point.

Which $ currency?

 By: chippyfly : August 28th, 2019-00:21
HK $ 48,600 is US $ 6,194 (maybe OK). Singapore $ is US $34,991 (not a chance). Zimbabwe $ is US134 (bargain!) Where to buy? Best Clive

I got the email notification from Omega CH as well and...

 By: reintitan : August 28th, 2019-00:36
...well after I saw the price I had to shake my head in bewilderment. Who is their target audience for this watch? The über rich will probably go for RM, AP, or even Hublot for a "haute horology" piece. Meanwhile, the average Joe Schmoe won't even enterta...

It weighs about the same ...

 By: Cpt Scarlet : August 28th, 2019-01:02
as the credit card you need to pay for it ;-))

haha! [nt]

 By: VinnieD : August 28th, 2019-01:06

LOL ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : August 28th, 2019-05:32

a lot to like about the movement and lightweight design here...

 By: Seeks : August 28th, 2019-01:20
but at that price point there are a lot of serious competition. Read that some golfers might be spotted with this in the upcoming Masters Best regards

Maybe that’s the high level plan...get golfers first, then tennis stars...

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-08:37
then Track and Field etc Eventually make it popular and can lower the cost with economy of scale to benefit us 😊

Not a bad move, especially in sync with their Pt pieces...

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-08:38
And then start to have application pieces.

Meh…nothing really new here.

 By: Boron : August 28th, 2019-05:23
As already mentioned, RADO introduced the Hyperchrome Ultralight back in 2016, at 56 grams, using a mix of SiN ceramic and hardened Ti on the exterior, and aluminium bridges for the movement., and all for $2500 ish. Most of the R&D has therefore been done...

I like this Omega a lot.

 By: M4 : August 28th, 2019-06:01
And it may be my first watch from the brand. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. M4

Omega has achieved a few objectives with this piece...

 By: vitalsigns : August 28th, 2019-06:24
1) We're now talking about Omega (even if we're baffled by the price) 2) Omega's other pieces now seem more reasonably priced 3) Omega may get much press in the sports word over this lightweight piece (even though other manufacturers already precede Omega...

You’re right...they just shocked a lot of collectors and the press...

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-11:28
Their 1948 SeaMaster in Pt sold out for the 70pcs each model so I assumed at least 140 well heeled collectors will be ordering these.

Finally, Omega can now move into Richard Mille territory.

Just add a fruit motif on the dial for next year.

Then buy AP, lol.... [nt]

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-12:13

Okay, let's do it!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : August 28th, 2019-13:42
I'm sure purists would have a few good ideas if we were running the show!

Similar to Breitling Superocean Chronowerks...

 By: jmpTT : August 28th, 2019-11:07
Breitling had a Superocean Chronowerks priced at $39,000...few years back. This is of a similar idea. I doubt those watches sold well and I doubt they’ll maintain their value in the collectors market. I feel this Omega, while a cool timepiece, is not pric...

Obviously we do not know what's happening behind their board rooms...

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-20:49
I don't know how to interpret this but I totally agree with your view of what watches people will choose. Maybe this is a transition to making the brand more upscale...one step for Omega, one giant leap for Swatch

Very cool, and I like that it's manual wind!

 By: jleno : August 28th, 2019-20:19
But that pricing is just insane.....

There are a lot of thing I like about this watch too...

 By: Clueless_Collector : August 28th, 2019-20:56
but I just cannot see myself (just me) paying this amount without some complications or higher end finishing etc.
