so you have decided to go deeper in the hole.. 
I didn't quite get the budget of $20k you stated above... But if it is the budget you'd want to spend on your next, same as Sergio and Jester, Im gonna give you different suggestions, which IMO could fit your criteria of Panerai, knowing that your first is the Bomba...
1. For "modern" , can try to get 249/232 and a 372.. I think theyre the best model that represent the DNA of historical vintage Panerai
2. Try the A series / PreA models... I think within that range you can easily afford any A-series like 1A, 2A or the PVD 4A or 9A (the PVD is much more pricey but still within that range) or maybe a PAM40, if you can find any, or a PreA1..
3. Depending on how you like this model or not, but you could try the Mare Nostrum PreV 301/A or PAM 6/7/8.. Its not a popular model but I think it has a really unique character to it... A beauty of it's own
Anyways, those are just my suggestion for you.. Hopefully it helps my friend..

Historically the 190 might the look but
that it makes up with the spirit of the 8 day movement. My mind keeps compare it to the 346. What's your opinion on 190 vs 346. Regards Tyler

Beside finding one is that will it be too dressy to be a Panerai. I know the watch can be dressy but I think there's a limit to what a 47mm watch can do to be that. I somehow wonder whether it is pushing it too far. How dressy should a military tool watch...
