Officine Panerai

Agreed

I think you're absolutely correct.    What we're seeing is perhaps an over-responsiveness to the core collectors, with perhaps over-repetitive pieces for those whom obsess over what is "historically correct", with an attempt to find favor among the broader, more classically Swiss style, watch fans.

This year shows more than perhaps any other period,  that Panerai is doing a good job addressing core collectors market with vintage inspired pieces, while also trying to move towards more (technically) different designs, that are perhaps high-qualty, but are more Swiss than Italian in design.   This for me is the crux of the issue.    I don't want to see Panerai become too sterile, and classically Swiss, which too many of the new pieces seem to exude.

If Panerai can keep those Italian, Florence style cues (DNA) in tact, and innovate around that - then the brand will be able to satisfy the broad market with those qualities we know, love, and prefer as the collectors.   As a collector, I too want consistent DNA in my PAMs, but I also want to see some innovation, beyond case material and movements.

Give me those fabulous in-house movements in true Panerai style and the brand can innovate/update as much as they's like.  I'll be happy with that, so long as their character stays Italian and not become too Swiss.
