You are right, John, the newer is 1, 5 mm smaller. Which is a very good point, IMO. 3 / 1 for the latter.
I prefer the power reserve and night and day indicator of the former, but I would prefer seeing them on the back side, yes.

Cleaner dial in general. And they've changed the typeface subtly too, I think, to a cleaner typeface. The old one was a tad cluttered visually.

I prefer the dial, it is more lively. I have been thinking about getting this as well but I wasn't sure how easy it would be to read the date as it seems quite small to the eye.
