Hmmmmm, about that date window...

 

I think that this 40mm MUT is one of those rare watches which actually benefits from having a the date window.  When I tried one on, I was surprised that the dial seemed to be a huge expanse —— Without the date window, it would be as barren as the plains of Nebraska.  And that’s not a good thing.

The date window to my eye gives a needed spot of visual interest, and reduces the perceived size of the dial.  Its location at 6:00 does not disturb symmetry.  Admittedly, however, it would be better with a background color to match the dial.

Overall, a beautiful and understated design, and the champagne color provides just the needed sprinkle of pepperoncini.  (Gee, champagne with pepperoncini...I'll have to try that!)

this is one time that I agree with you. The date here is a eye sore especially against the sunburst pattern! Sincerely and Respectfully Joseph

I would have preferred a little extra $ in the construction: make the date wheel the same color as the dial and make the date font silver to match the index markers. -Dean

On this model, the date, logo and 2 index tips at 3 and 9 form a perfect circle within the circle. So, I think the date works VERY WELL on this piece. To me, this piece is as beautiful as the Patrimony or ANY Calatrava. -Dean

Regarding date I can see how it would look empty without on a 40mm time only and I can also see how many buyers seem to want one. Me for one do not find the date necessary as I have a smartphone surgically attached to my hand when I am not at my desk. In ... 

Well, we most often know what day we are, but we never know what time it is. That's why I don't get the interest of a date, unless...

It is an original one, or a sophisticated one ( Grande Date ). Or a complete one ( Triple Calendar, perpetual calendar ). Best, Nicolas
