I speak only of what I know.
In Nov 2006, 3 Collectors and first of all, friends, had a meeting with JLC Team in Paris, to discuss about the re edition of the Polaris.
Were there: M.A, Y.O, and me.
At the End of the dinner, JLC agreed on the principle of the Re Edition of the Polaris.
Then we had some discussions and meetings to agree about what has to be a re edition, because a an evolution didn't have any interest, the Amvox I being there for that.
The most important things were that:
The Case have to get the same dimensions and shape ( even more faithful than on the Amvox I, where the lugs slightly differ )
As for the hands, a sythesis was made from the Net, and the Calypso hands were rejected, even if their existence seem to be real, to avoid any never ending discussion about them.
Another thing was capital, the plexy instead of the sapphire, to give tis particular warmth to the watch, and a Domed plexy, so sexy!
Tritium indexes were considered as an Ideal Solution, but the International norms didn't allow to use it, soa Tainted Luminova was chosen, which is an excellent " erzats " compared to the Greenish Re Edition of the IWC Aquatimer.
As for the Caliber, this is the only thing which got an evolution, as a mpdern one was better than using or re making a Cal 825, the modern one offering a quick set of the Date, and of course, more reliable than a more than 40 years old movement.
The '65 and ' 68 were chosen because they are the 2 main versions of the Polaris.
As for Marketting on the Polaris, I don't know if you noticed, but there is no marketting on this piece, no special publication, nothing, except the enthusiasm of Collectors and Fans, which is amrvellous, don't you think?
AFAIK, there was a watch re edited before the Polaris, in association between a Brand and some Collectors: The Blancpain FF from 2003.
Hope you now have the answers to your questions!
Best, and thanks for your nice words!
