Hey folks, Finally bought my Grail (used) and took it to a JLC boutique to get it serviced. They quoted me $2200 and said it would take 2 months. Now, when I check the service tracking website, it quotes 3 months. What's the deal!? They said it just neede...  

If yes, you could save yourself $2200. Mine has never been serviced since new and it's still running perfectly...😉 ...  

But I bought it from a dealer in HK, so I wanted to be sure there wasn't anything suspicious.

If it were me I would plan for 5 months and be happy if it is sooner. Also, when you pick it up at the boutique make sure to do a visual inspection, set it and wind it yourself to check tension on the mainsprings and test the chrono function thoroughly be... 

You make it sound like even after all that time and money, I still probably can't trust them to do a good job! What, is servicing a racket?

I did the same thing when I got my Duometre and it was gone for over a year going back for service 3 times in a row. Had I known or the boutique set more conservative expectations around the possibility I would have been a lot happier and more understandi... 

I would guess 4-6 mos and more money than they quoted when they add things. If working well, leave it alone and enjoy that beauty!

I think it's a very good move to have it serviced. I often do the same, especially if i think the watch is a "lifer" in my collection. You have a fabulous Duometre. Congrats on acquiring your grail. Enjoy it forever. M4

I think it will be a lifer. So I wanted to start it off with a good servicing. Just have never had a watch like this before, so two months sounded crazy to my uninitiated mind. Thanks for the kind words. Josh

Why I don’t own one. It’s a fantastic machine, but to much for most watchmakers to service and then you have one choice.

took nine months for a Patek watch. It was under warranty and sent to the Stern Watch Agency in NYC to fix a misaligned chrono hand. I thought that wait was egregious seeing how I only had the watch for six month prior to that. I just got it back recently... 

Guess the luxury industry is intentionally slow. But man give me my watch back if it's going to take that long. I'll hold on to it until you're ready to actually do the job.

Even if the watch "just needs lubricant replaced," this involves a full disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly of the movement. JLC watches often have intricate movements with hundreds of tiny components, and each one must be handled with extr...

it is pretty fun to think that almost 20 years ago 200 items got produced and there is a small community online that know each other because decades later they found one.

I just had the exact same watch in service in Le Sentier and got it back like new after 9 weeks! Very happy! A real marvel ...

And JLC charges an arm and a leg and takes FOREVER. Use Chronotek in PA. They work on lots of indies. And are legit. I think they have an instagram page as well.
