Hey folks, Finally bought my Grail (used) and took it to a JLC boutique to get it serviced. They quoted me $2200 and said it would take 2 months. Now, when I check the service tracking website, it quotes 3 months. What's the deal!? They said it just needed the lubricant replaced. I must be a bumpkin, because I feel like this takes a couple hours and could be done same week for a couple hundred dollars. Sincerely, An Engineer

If yes, you could save yourself $2200.  Mine has never been serviced since new and it's still running perfectly...😉

But I bought it from a dealer in HK, so I wanted to be sure there wasn't anything suspicious.

If it were me I would plan for 5 months and be happy if it is sooner. Also, when you pick it up at the boutique make sure to do a visual inspection, set it and wind it yourself to check tension on the mainsprings and test the chrono function thoroughly before leaving the boutique.

You make it sound like even after all that time and money, I still probably can't trust them to do a good job! What, is servicing a racket?

I did the same thing when I got my Duometre and it was gone for over a year going back for service 3 times in a row. Had I known or the boutique set more conservative expectations around the possibility I would have been a lot happier and more understanding.

I would guess 4-6 mos and more money than they quoted when they add things.

If working well, leave it alone and enjoy that beauty!

I think it will be a lifer. So I wanted to start it off with a good servicing. Just have never had a watch like this before, so two months sounded crazy to my uninitiated mind.

Why I don’t own one. It’s a fantastic machine, but to much for most watchmakers to service and then you have one choice.

took nine months for a Patek watch. It was under warranty and sent to the Stern Watch Agency in NYC to fix a misaligned chrono hand. I thought that wait was egregious seeing how I only had the watch for six month prior to that. I just got it back recently so all is good now, but these wait times seem unreasonable.

Guess the luxury industry is intentionally slow. But man give me my watch back if it's going to take that long. I'll hold on to it until you're ready to actually do the job.

Even if the watch "just needs lubricant replaced," this involves a full disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and reassembly of the movement. JLC watches often have intricate movements with hundreds of tiny components, and each one must be handled with extreme care.
Enjoy the watch put off service if you can.

Hi, Fellas: I am new to the Forum but not to watches/clocks. I just pulled the trigger on a Duometre a Quantieme Lunaire from Hong Kong last week, and the dealer indicates it runs perfectly at full power but amplitude is reduced after an hour or more of running. He has offered to service it before shipping, but I am aware of the complexity of Duometres and only wish for JLC to perform the service. It's the Limited Edition model with Enamel Dial C.2014 (quite hard to find), and the price was very good. I understand all Duometres are returned to Switzerland for service...Is that true, do you know? And is it better to give to a boutique (4 hours' drive), or ship directly to Switzerland Service if possible? Thanks for your comments/advice.
