I can live with either.

 

Only non-date watches I have are my vintage pieces. I wouldn't mind picking

up a modern piece with no date at some point. Maybe a Rolex Oyster or a Reverso.
I really don't need any other complications on my watches and actually prefer 
a simple piece, with or without date.

I kinda look at tit this way, the more complications there are them more than can go wrong,
more expensive to fix and service.  It is also my guess that many complications on watches
are never used and are bought only for the "cool factor"
