Perfection!
Feb 22, 2021,19:35 PM
Beauty as they say is in the eyes of the beholder. I have been blessed with quite a number of beautiful watches over the years and decided to reward myself with a retirement gift when I placed an order for a RW Smith Series 2 in rose gold in November 2016. I managed to arrange a meeting with Roger Smith during Salon QP in London and after torturing him with a few questions, I decided I should take the plunge. It is worth mentioning that prior to that, I had been corresponding with his wife, Caroline (who handles his communications) for six years.!! I must confess that I have a bad habit of taking my time before making an important decision, probably due to the twenty five years I spent working in a Japanese conglomerate, the Japanese being known for their lengthy deliberations.
My watch finally goes into production next month and I had decided last month to change the case from rose gold to white gold which was accepted. While discussing the final specification of the watch, Caroline sent me a photo of a Series 1 in rose gold which made my jaw drop. Never have I seen a watch so perfect. I decided to change my order to a Series 1 in rose gold hoping that it was still possible as Roger and his team had allocated a white gold case to me, no thanks to my fickle mindedness, Thankfully, my request was accepted and best of all, Caroline offered to charge me for the watch at November 2016 prices!
The watch shown here is actually in 40mm and I have ordered mine in 38mm where the dial size will remain the same but the bezel will be thinner. I have always been concerned over the height of the watch but my love and attraction for this piece is so great, that I know I will overlook this. This RW Smith will be my pride and joy in my tiny 5 watch collection.
Thank you for reading and when I do receive the watch, hopefully before the year ends, I will share it with you.
